One of the most famous songs that George Harrison released in the 80s, Got My Mind Set On You, featured on his Cloud Nine (1987) album was actually a cover from a song originally released in 1962 written by Rudy Clark and performed by James Ray. "Got My Mind Set on You", penned by the prolific songwriter Rudy Clark, was recorded by Ray in 1961. He was living rough when the producer Gerry Granahan urged him into the studio. In September 1963, he spent a fortnight with his sister Louise, a resident of Benton, a small mining town in southern Illinois. Got My Mind Set on You was also written by Rudy Clark (best known for Good Lovin’ and It’s In His Kiss) and recorded by Ray in 1962. George Harrison was the first Beatle to set foot on American soil.
